An Immersive Rail Experience

We have some exciting news for your upcoming journey, we have made changes to our onboard audio commentary which is now available via our new infotainment app.

The infotainment app allows all audio commentary and stories to be available at a touch of a button via your phone.

Our commentary has been upgraded and revised and we are excited to have it available for our passengers.

The app is easy to use, and if you have any issues, please talk to the staff on the train, they will help you to troubleshoot any issues.

Please make sure you bring your own device, USB charger and headphones to enjoy the audio commentary.

We recommend you download the free “Great Journeys New Zealand” app in advance.

Some sections of the app won’t be available until you are on the train, but once connected to the Wifi on the train you’ll will be able to see the full content.

Scenic Freedom Pass

Scenic Freedom Pass consists of a 4-Day in 1 Month New Zealand Travel Rail Pass and a 60-Hour Intercity Bus/Coach/Ferry Pass. Includes Ferry between North and South Islands.
Scenic Freedom Pass can be used to travel north to south or south to north.
Scenic Freedom Pass is suited for independent travellers, families or small groups, who are travelling together on the same routes, to the same destinations.
If you run out of bus/coach travel ‘Hours’, you can top up your coach travel pass with additional travel ‘Hours’ which are available in 3 or 10 ‘Hour’ lots. Includes Ferry between North and South Islands.
Reservations for train, bus/coach & ferry services are compulsory and should be made as soon as possible to avoid disappointment and no later than 72 Hours prior to the travel date.

RailBus Scenic Passes are valid for travel until 30 June 2025
All prices are per person as each traveller needs his or her own pass
